June 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the June edition of our newsletter!

June has been another wonderful month filled with celebrations, exciting outings, music, creativity, and plenty of laughter. From celebrating King Charles’ Birthday and enjoying a traditional Turkish Afternoon Tea, to exploring Dundee’s museums and spending time together in the community, there has been something for everyone to enjoy.

As always, we hope you enjoy looking back on some of the special moments we shared throughout June.

Monthly Highlights

One of the biggest highlights this month was our King Charles’ Birthday Celebration.

Residents, families, and friends came together to enjoy delicious cake, refreshments, wonderful live music, and plenty of dancing. The afternoon was filled with smiles, laughter, and a fantastic sense of celebration, making it a truly memorable occasion for everyone.

Another unforgettable event was our Scottish Party, where we were delighted to welcome Michael Patterson for a fantastic live performance. Residents enjoyed singing, dancing, clapping along to traditional Scottish music, and Betty gave a heartfelt speech that made the afternoon even more special.

We also took a wonderful cultural journey during our Turkish Afternoon Tea, sampling delicious Turkish delights and traditional tea while listening to Turkish music. A special thank you to Beryl for bringing a taste of Türkiye to Orchar and creating such an enjoyable afternoon for everyone.

June also brought some fantastic days out. Ladies enjoyed exploring the CATWALK: The Art of the Fashion Show exhibition at V&A Dundee, while our gentlemen had a wonderful afternoon at the Transport Museum, reminiscing about vehicles, travel, and memories from years gone by. Both outings sparked plenty of conversation and were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Activities & Daily Life

Throughout the month, residents enjoyed a wide variety of activities including:

✧ Giant Snakes & Ladders, mini golf, shooting games, cup kicking, and football sweepstakes

✧ Arts and crafts including stencil painting, dried flower suncatchers, and Heart for Art sessions

✧ Weekly music therapy sessions with Mary, filled with singing, dancing, and playing instruments

✧ Gentle exercise sessions, including “I Am the Music Man” movement activities

✧ Cinema Club featuring The Sound of Music

✧ Ladies’ pamper afternoons with facials, hand massages, and foot massages

✧ Community outings, café visits, church service

The beautiful summer weather also gave us many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Residents spent relaxing afternoons along the waterfront, in local cafés, and enjoying fresh air while sharing conversations and making wonderful memories together.

Whether creating artwork, enjoying friendly competition, exploring Dundee, or simply singing along to familiar songs, every day brought opportunities for fun, friendship, and laughter.

Special Moments

June was filled with many memorable celebrations and heartwarming moments.

We were delighted to celebrate the birthdays of Ella, Jean, and Vera. Each celebration was filled with cake, music, friendship, and plenty of smiles, creating special memories for residents, families, and staff alike.

Another heartwarming moment came when our 100-year-old resident, Betty, enjoyed a cycling session. It was a beautiful reminder that age is no barrier to trying something new – or revisiting a cherished childhood memory. Seeing the happiness on her face was truly unforgettable and brought smiles to everyone around her.

We also shared many meaningful moments through music, faith, and friendship, from our monthly church service and regular music therapy sessions to relaxing afternoons enjoying classic films, conversations, and time together.

Community & Support

June reminded us how important community connections are. Throughout the month, residents enjoyed spending time beyond the home, whether visiting local attractions, attending the Garden Fête at Balcarres Care Home, joining the lively community dances at Fairmuir Social Club, or enjoying a relaxing afternoon at the Fisherman’s Tavern, where many reminisced about happy times spent in local pubs with family and friends. These outings provided wonderful opportunities to socialise, reconnect with familiar places, and create lasting memories together.

We would like to thank our entertainers, visitors, families, and staff for their continued kindness, enthusiasm, and support. Your involvement helps make Orchar such a welcoming and vibrant place to call home.

Looking Ahead – June

We have an exciting month ahead!

One of our biggest upcoming events will be our Quiz Night Fundraiser on Tuesday 28th July at The Fort Hotel, Broughty Ferry. The evening will include a fun quiz, raffle, sandwiches at half time, and prizes for the winning team. All money raised will go directly to our Comfort Fund, helping us provide community outings, special trips, and engaging activities for our residents.

We are also looking for donations for our Pop-Up Shop (25th July – 6th August) and raffle prizes for the Quiz Night. If you have any items you would like to donate, please hand them in at reception. Every donation and every contribution is greatly appreciated, and all funds raised will help enhance the lives of our residents.

Alongside our regular activities, we look forward to welcoming families and friends to more summer events, outings, music, and celebrations throughout July.

Thank you to all our families and friends for your continued support. Whether visiting in person, joining our events, or keeping up with us on Facebook, your involvement means so much to our residents and team.

We look forward to sharing more happy memories with you next month!
