May 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the May edition of our newsletter!

As the weather became warmer and the days grew longer, May brought plenty of opportunities for fun, friendship, creativity, and enjoying the outdoors.

This month, we celebrated three resident birthdays, welcomed some wonderful animal visitors, explored the art of Chinese calligraphy, enjoyed trips into the local community, and danced the afternoon away at our colourful Hawaii Summer Party. From music and creativity to laughter and friendship, there has been something for everyone to enjoy.

We hope you enjoy looking back on some of the special moments we shared together throughout May.

Monthly Highlights

One of the biggest highlights this month was our Hawaii Summer Party.

Residents enjoyed delicious food and refreshments, tropical decorations, and live music from the wonderful Mary. The home was filled with singing, laughter, and summer spirit, creating a holiday atmosphere without leaving Dundee. It was lovely to see everyone embracing the theme and enjoying a fun-filled afternoon together.

Another memorable experience was our Chinese Calligraphy Afternoon. Residents explored the beauty of traditional Chinese calligraphy and enjoyed seeing their names written in both English and Chinese. For many, it was their first experience of this art form, making it a fascinating and meaningful afternoon.

We were also delighted to welcome Dee-Ukes for a wonderful afternoon of music and entertainment. Residents thoroughly enjoyed singing along, dancing, and joining in with familiar songs. The lively atmosphere and fantastic performance brought smiles to everyone’s faces and made for a truly enjoyable afternoon.

Music continued to play an important role in life at Orchar throughout May. Alongside Dee-Ukes, residents also enjoyed regular music therapy sessions, performances from Mary Veal, and community dances that had everyone singing along and tapping their feet.

Activities & Daily Life

Throughout the month, residents enjoyed a wide variety of activities including:

  • Balloon passing, ring toss, basketball, bowling, and football games
  • Arts and crafts sessions including clay modelling, scarf making, and painting colourful suncatchers
  • Music therapy sessions filled with singing, dancing, and instrument playing
  • Creative afternoons at Heart for Art
  • Community outings to Fairmuir Social Club and Mitchell’s Café
  • Relaxing ladies’ pamper afternoons
  • Garden lunches, refreshments, and social gatherings

There were also plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Residents spent time in the garden listening to music, sharing stories, enjoying refreshments, and making the most of the sunshine whenever it appeared.

Whether taking part in a competitive game, creating something artistic, or simply enjoying good company, every day brought moments of fun, friendship, and laughter.

Special Moments

May was a month of wonderful celebrations and memorable visits.

We were delighted to celebrate the birthdays of Nancy, Dorothy, and Jeanette. Each celebration was filled with music, cake, friendship, and plenty of smiles, creating special memories for residents, families, and staff alike.

We were delighted to welcome some very special four-legged visitors this month. Residents enjoyed meeting and interacting with the friendly animals from Eden’s Garden, whose visit sparked lots of conversation, laughter, and happy memories. We also had a lovely visit from Gordon the Chihuahua, who was warmly welcomed and quickly became a favourite among residents. These animal visits brought great joy to everyone and created many heartwarming moments throughout the month.

Our regular trips into the community continued to be a highlight, helping residents stay connected while enjoying music, dancing, coffee outings, and social events with friends.

Community & Support

This month reminded us that wellbeing comes in many forms — from learning something new and expressing creativity, to enjoying music, spending time with animals, sharing laughter with friends, or simply relaxing outdoors together.

The joy, enthusiasm, and support shown by our residents, families, staff, volunteers, entertainers, and visitors help make Orchar such a warm and vibrant community.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributes to making each day special.

Looking Ahead – June

As we move into June, we are looking forward to making the most of the summer weather with more garden activities, community outings, live entertainment, and opportunities for residents to spend time with family and friends.

Thank you to all our families and friends for your continued support. Whether visiting in person, joining our events, or keeping in touch through Facebook, your involvement means so much to our residents and team.

We look forward to sharing more happy memories with you next month!
