September 2026 Newsletter

Welcome

Welcome to the September edition of our newsletter!

September has been another wonderful month at Orchar, filled with music, celebrations, creativity, teamwork, and plenty of laughter. From representing Team USA at Go for Gold and saying goodbye to summer with a fantastic party, to sharing a taste of Chinese culture during our Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration, there have been so many memorable moments to look back on.

As always, we hope you enjoy looking back on some of the special moments we shared throughout September.

Monthly Highlights

One of the biggest highlights of September was undoubtedly Go for Gold 2026! In the weeks leading up to the big day, residents worked together to create their own Team USA badges and flag, with everyone adding their own ideas and creative touches. It was wonderful to see the excitement building and such a strong sense of teamwork.

When the big day finally arrived, our team gave it their all! From teamwork and determination to laughter and unforgettable moments, everyone had a fantastic time taking part. To make the day even more special, Betty delivered the closing speech, bringing a brilliant day to a memorable end. We were incredibly proud of our whole team!

We also said goodbye to summer in style with our End of Summer Party. Residents enjoyed tasty summer treats, wonderful live music from Lynne McTaggart, singing, dancing, and plenty of laughter. There were some particularly impressive moves on the dance floor, making it the perfect way to celebrate the end of another lovely summer together.

Another special afternoon was our Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration. Residents discovered a little about one of China’s most important traditional festivals while sampling mooncakes and Chinese tea. It was a relaxed and enjoyable opportunity to experience something different and share a little taste of Chinese culture together.

Activities & Daily Life

Throughout September, residents enjoyed a varied programme of activities, including:

✧ Ring Toss, ball-and-cup challenges, ribbon exercise, and other gentle movement activities

✧ Art sessions filled with colour and creativity

✧ Music therapy with Mary, bringing plenty of singing, rhythm, and smiles

✧ Our very own Whack-a-Mole, bringing a little childhood fun to Orchar

✧ A relaxing musical afternoon watching Can-Can with drinks and tasty nibbles

✧ Plenty of singing, dancing, and opportunities to keep active through music

One of the joys of our activities is that even the simplest games can become surprisingly competitive! From trying to land the perfect ring to carefully transferring little balls between cups, residents showed plenty of concentration, steady hands, determination, and good humour.

Whether exercising, getting creative, enjoying music, or simply spending time together, there were plenty of opportunities throughout September to stay active, engaged, and connected.

Special Moments

September brought some wonderful entertainment to Orchar.

We started the month with a little bit of magic as Harry Mudini joined us for a fantastic Magic Show. There were plenty of surprises, amazed faces, and more than a few “How did he do that?” moments!

Later in the month, John McGlaughlan treated us to a brilliant afternoon of live entertainment. Residents were completely swept up in the music, singing and dancing along, before Jean surprised everyone with a little performance of her own. Betty then rounded off the afternoon beautifully with a heartfelt thank-you speech.

We ended the month on another musical high with Michael Patterson, whose live performance had residents singing, dancing, and smiling throughout the afternoon. It was a wonderful way to bring another busy month at Orchar towards a close.

We also welcomed three particularly adorable visitors when some of our staff brought their dogs in to spend time with residents. There were plenty of cuddles and lots of attention to go around — and more than a few hearts were completely melted!

Community & Support

September gave us plenty of opportunities to enjoy connections both within Orchar and in the wider community.

Residents returned to Fairmuir Social Club for another lively afternoon of music and dancing. Once the music started, there was no stopping us! These regular community visits continue to be a wonderful opportunity to socialise, enjoy familiar music, and simply have fun together.

We would also like to thank all of our entertainers, visitors, families, friends, and staff who helped make September so enjoyable. Whether joining us for a special event, bringing music into the home, helping with activities, or simply spending time with our residents, your involvement is always greatly appreciated.

Looking Ahead – September

As we move into October, we are looking forward to another month filled with entertainment, seasonal fun, music, creativity, and plenty of opportunities to spend time together.

We have some exciting special events ahead, including a visit from the Puppet Gang, live entertainment from Grant Rielly, and, of course, our Halloween Party at the end of the month. Alongside these special events, residents can look forward to our regular music, games, creative activities, exercise sessions, and relaxing social afternoons.

As always, families and friends are warmly welcome to join us at our upcoming events and activities whenever possible. Your visits and involvement make these occasions even more enjoyable and meaningful for our residents.

Thank you to all our families and friends for your continued support and for being such an important part of our Orchar community.

We look forward to sharing more happy memories with you next month!

Thank you for being part of our Orchar community.
