August 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the August edition of our newsletter!

August has been another busy and joyful month at Orchar, filled with music, creativity, celebrations, community connections, and plenty of laughter. From enjoying a wonderful community tea party and taking a little taste of France, to welcoming new friends and travelling back in time to our school days, there has been something for everyone to enjoy.

As always, we hope you enjoy looking back on some of the special moments we shared throughout August.

Monthly Highlights

One of the highlights this month was the wonderful Weavers Tea Party. Residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon of refreshments, conversation, and community spirit, with some very special surprises along the way. One resident unexpectedly met an old school friend, another was delighted to win a prize, and our oldest guest received a special gift. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with smiles, happy memories, and meaningful connections.

We also took a little trip to France without leaving Orchar during our French Afternoon. Residents enjoyed hot chocolate, Brie cheese, French music, and a little wine, creating a relaxed afternoon with plenty of French joie de vivre. The music brought back many lovely memories, and Jane particularly impressed us by knowing every song and happily singing along!

Another memorable afternoon was our My School Days reminiscence activity. Residents searched through photographs to spot their old schools and shared stories and memories from their classroom days. Questions such as “What kind of student were you?” and “If you could go back to school for one day, what would you do?” sparked some brilliant answers, lots of laughter, and wonderful conversations about years gone by.

Activities & Daily Life

Throughout August, residents enjoyed a wide variety of activities including:

✧ Bowling, Left-Hand Spoon Race, darts, parachute games, dominoes, Colour Ball Sorting, and our entertaining “Yes or No” game

✧ Picture-and-gesture games and hand-dancing activities, encouraging movement, coordination, and plenty of laughter

✧ Creative sessions including photo frame decorating and Heart for Art

✧ Music and movement sessions with drums, tambourines, familiar songs, and gentle exercise

✧ A musical afternoon enjoying Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

✧ Shopping trips, church visits, waterfront walks, and relaxing afternoons in the garden

✧ Our fun Guess the Object game, which produced plenty of imaginative — and sometimes very unexpected — answers!

The summer weather gave us some lovely opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Residents made the most of sunny days with afternoon tea in the garden, beautiful sea views, ice lollies, walks along the waterfront, and friendly games in the fresh air.

Whether keeping active, expressing creativity, enjoying music, or simply spending time together, August brought plenty of smiles and laughter to daily life at Orchar.

Special Moments

August was filled with birthdays and many heartwarming moments.

We were delighted to celebrate the birthdays of Ginny, Dreena, David, and Kathy, with Kathy reaching the wonderful milestone of 90 years. Her birthday was made even more special with entertainment from The Shoogalie Road Production. Residents enjoyed an afternoon of music, singing, and laughter, and seeing Kathy’s smile as everyone sang Happy Birthday was a truly lovely moment.

Our little friend Gordon the Chihuahua also returned for another visit, bringing plenty of cuddles, smiles, and affection. He certainly has quite a fan club at Orchar!

Community & Support

August brought some lovely opportunities to stay connected with friends and the wider community.

Residents enjoyed another afternoon at the Fairmuir Social Club community dance, with plenty of singing, dancing, laughter, and good company. These regular visits continue to provide a wonderful opportunity to socialise, enjoy familiar music, and have fun together.

Back at Orchar, we were delighted to welcome some new friends for afternoon tea, games, and conversation. It was lovely to see everyone chatting, getting to know one another, and sharing plenty of laughter. We hope this will be the beginning of many more enjoyable visits together.

We would like to thank our entertainers, visitors, families, friends, and staff for their continued kindness, enthusiasm, and support. Your involvement helps make Orchar such a warm, welcoming, and vibrant place to call home.

Looking Ahead – September

September is shaping up to be another exciting month at Orchar, with plenty of entertainment, celebrations, creativity, and opportunities to spend time together.

We have some wonderful special events to look forward to, including a Magic Show with Harry Mudini, live entertainment from John Mcglaughlan, our End of Summer Party, a special Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration, and live music with Michael Patterson.

Alongside these special events, residents can also look forward to our regular music therapy, creative activities, community outings, games, pamper sessions, and our exciting Go for Gold 2026 activities throughout the month.

As always, families and friends are warmly welcome to join us, especially for our special events. Your visits and involvement make these occasions even more enjoyable and meaningful for our residents.

We look forward to another month filled with fun, friendship, and happy memories!
